60's Classic Collection Gift Basket Review

I ordered this when it was 1/2 off for my husband for Father's Day. If I had paid full price I would have been livid. The candy might have cost the company $10 retail max. Some classics were included but so many were left out. Remember Gold Nugget gum? Mary Janes? Sugar Daddy? A couple of the items were full size, like Big League Gum, but most were small individual pieces. Included was a soda (Moxie - never heard of it but it could have been a regional brand), a jump rope (huh? You don't buy this for a kid; you buy it for a 50 year old who grew up in the 60s) and a plastic square moving puzzle (you know the kind that you keep moving the squares around the square frame until the small pieces are in the right place). The EXACT jump rope was $3 at the local craft store and the puzzle was a Party City piece of junk party favor. I could have spent the $35 at the local Cracker Barrel and put together a much better box of candy and could have even included a Moon Pie or two. Don't waste your money.

Emerson MW8991SB 0.9Cu.Ft. 900 Watt Touch-Control Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel Review

The other reviewer is incorrect about the microwave's (in)ability for specific cooking time input. All you have to do is hit the Power Level button first, then the numbers will allow you to input any time you want, 8 seconds or 45 seconds or whatever. I have the same 8992sb that the other reviewer has.
I've had the microwave for 3 months, and for the most part it has worked very well and is very easy to operate. One minor flaw is that the Popcorn button, when pressed once, defaults to settings for a 1.75 oz bag of microwave popcorn. This is the "mini" bag size that isn't very common. Most microwave popcorn comes in a slightly larger bag, and to set for that you have to push the Popcorn button TWICE to get to the correct setting. This is counter-intuitive, as the majority of microwave popcorn on store shelves is the larger size. It took me a few bags of popcorn to figure that out, and I had a LOT of unpopped kernels until I looked back at the manual and then at my box of popcorn to see that the microwave doesn't default to the most common size. But that's minor.
The major flaw with this microwave is WHERE IS THE KITCHEN TIMER? Most new microwaves nowadays have a kitchen timer. The store where I bought this microwave lists that it has a kitchen timer. This site lists that it has a kitchen timer, and this microwave has the exact same button display as mine. The owner's manual does NOT list a kitchen timer. I have pressed every button on the thing, and there is no timer. I tried adjusting the power level from 1 - 10. Power level 1 still turns on power, and there is no Power Level 0.
I used the kitchen timer on my old microwave all the time. When I bought this one, multiple sources listed it having a kitchen timer. But there is no timer. If I had known before I bought this microwave that it had no timer function, I would NOT have bought it.

Nostalgia Retro Hot Air Popper Review

Two stars because it's cute and when it works I love the popcorn. Wouldn't buy it again though (bought as a Christmas gift- THANKFULLY I DIDN'T GIVE IT TO ANYONE!). Poorly made. The bottom half of the door cracked and fell off the 3rd time I used it (seemingly for no reason other than heat???). Is constantly jamming as the first reviewer said. In my case it's because the lids get stuck and the pressure of the popping corn makes it stop (can you imagine popping popcorn inside a sealed tin can- you're getting the picture). Makes very little popcorn at a time but it's SMALL so that was to be expected. There is a similar popper sold here with different styling (red & yellow- more of a "carnival" style??) that I also ordered and ended up giving as the gift. It had gotten good reviews. The popping mechanism was the same but the quality of the case was better. I was suprised that they were made by the same company. I haven't heard yet how it worked out for them. This one won't last long but I've gotten addicted to it. I'll replace it with a comercial quality one (I found them when I ordered this one for it about $100 more if I remember right). Absolutely worth the upgrade if you're planning to use this more than once. By the way, the pre-measured pouches of popcorn from Wabash Farms (yum!!!) were suggested by Amazon to go with this popper- big mistake. This is a 2oz popper and they are for 6oz poppers. I had to pry the wedged popcorn out with a screwdriver!

Nostalgia Electrics HHP-100 Hollywood Hot Air Popcorn Maker Review

Bought this thing for my wife as a Christmas gift. It has a cool look to it, and the popcorn that it puts out is fluffy, we use the orville reddenwhatever kernels. The problem with the machine is that it only pops about 35 to 40% of the kernels you put in it. The rest become dangerous projectiles that shoot out of the machine and fly about the room like someone exploded a shrapnel grenade in the middle of your kitchen. Keep your kids from getting anywhere near this thing. Called customer service but did not get a response. Oh yeah, for what its worth, the battery cover for the marquis was also missing from the box.

Nostalgia RHP-625 Hot-Air Retro Popcorn Maker Review

Nostalgia RHP-625 Hot-Air Retro Popcorn Maker

I really like popcorn. I was totally psyched to use this popper, and the fact that it air-popped made me love it more. It's easy to use and easy to clean. However, from the first use the popcorn went flying everywhere! I placed a good-sized bowl underneath the slide/opening shoot and it caught about 3/4 of the popcorn. The second time, I balanced a very tall popcorn bucket underneath the shoot and still, popcorn and unpopped kernels were flying everywhere. There are a lot more unpopped kernels being thrown than actual popcorn, which is a pain to find and clean up and to get hit with. After the money I spent, I won't give it up, but I think this is the most disappointing thing I bought all year. The popcorn that does land in the bowl is good, I think it has a slight staleness to it, but my friends think it tastes especially fresh. Maybe I'm a little bitter by the time I get to eating it. Also, on the second use, the machine just suddenly stopped. I wasn't sure if it overheated or what (the popper gets extremely hot) but it did begin working again.
I bought this trying to save money and calories versus the microwave kind. I think I might keep an Orville bag of Natural around just in case.

Using hot air instead of oil, this convenient tabletop-size electric popper produces a deliciously healthy, low-fat snack. Its retro style brings back memories of old-fashioned diner-style units of the 1950s. The popper offers a capacity of 3-1/2 ounces of kernels, and pops enough corn to please a family, several dorm friends, or an office crowd. Easy to use and easy to clean, the appliance produces fresh, hot popcorn in minutes. A measuring cap comes included to ensure the proper amount of kernels get poured into the top. Great for fundraisers, birthday parties, and other social gatherings, the 1080-watt ETL-approved popcorn maker measures 7-3/5 by 11 by 15-3/5 inches and carries a 90-day warranty.

Roosevelt Eight Ounce Antique Popcorn Machine in Red Review

I ordered the Red Bar Style "Roosevelt" 8 ounce popcorn machine for our soccer league concession stand this past August. I had done a lot of searching to try & find something that would fit in to our budget but was still of a commercial grade. What a GREAT find this was! The machine is great, pops the corn quickly, cleans up very easily & the drawer in the bottom for the unpopped kernels is wonderful! I also ordered the popcorn portion packs from Discount Tommys (several times now) as I didn't want to mess with measuring oil, popcorn etc. I was a little skeptical at how it would taste but I can honestly tell you popcorn became our biggest seller this fall at our concession stand. Customer Service is great! They shipped everything quickly & the packing was superb! I wold definitely recommend this popcorn machine for home use & concessions/church events etc!
